Use unit pricing

Shelf tags list the price per ounce, pound or count. This makes different package sizes easy to compare.

Include shipping, taxes and fees when shopping online. A low price with high shipping may not be a deal.

Store brands are often cheaper and similar in quality, especially for staples.

A “2 for $6” sign may not actually require buying two. A “sale” price may also be the normal price.

Seasonal items and end-of-season clearances are often cheaper. Price-tracking tools can alert you to drops.

Write down typical prices of items you buy often so you can recognize a real deal.
